Satoru Iwata confirms increased production of Wii units

Satoru Iwata confirms increased Wii production - Image 1If there’s one good thing that we can derive from the current Wii supply shortage, it is that Nintendo is acknowledging that fact.

It should be remembered that it was only yesterday when one company representative mentioned that they have been increasing the manufacturing capacity for the last three months now. Likewise, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata seemed baffled as well with the current problem as he said that the shortage is quite “abnormal.”

The statement was delivered when Iwata recently gave a press briefing in Tokyo in relation to Nintendo’s unprecedented sales for Wii and handheld DS. Regarding the shortage, the official commented, “We must do our best to fix this abnormal lack of stock. We have not been able to properly foresee demand. We will do our best to offer the machine for those who are waiting.”

Satoru Iwata refused to disclose the increase in their monthly production capacity but he did say that Nintendo is now producing 2.5 million DS units a month to meet production. On the other hand, the company representative from yesterday said that they have been making one million Wii units a month since January 2007.
