Say it ain’t so: Nintendo Power closing shop?
It will be remembered that last week, Nintendo of America (NoA) was reportedly moving out of its Redmond office into either San Francisco or New York. There were also reports that NoA employees in the area were being asked if they would either join in the reshuffle, or face the prospect of unemployment.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve picked up word (via IGN) that in light of this move, the company’s Nintendo Power Magazine may either be facing a restructuring or *shudder* an outright shutdown. This information was passed along via sources close to the publication who indicated that NoA was sending out layoff feelers among the company’s employees. Another side to the speculation is that Nintendo Power will still continue its print run, but under a third-party group.
That’s all the information we have at the moment unfortunately, given that NoA hasn’t made any official statements on this matter. But just like the rest of the guys here, we here at QJ hope for the best – it just wouldn’t be right to pull the plug on one of the gaming industry’s longest-running magazines. Stay tuned in case more information makes itself known.
