Sony job cuts unlikely to affect games division - Image 1Sony‘s corporate presentation yesterday stated that they plan to reduce headcount in their games, movie, and pictures divisions, leaving people speculating over the fate of the various PlayStation divisions.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment though, the games departments are least likely to be affected by the cost-cutting measures.

This echoes the statement made by SCEE that they have no plans of reducing their numbers. This is a comfort to know, since their electronics business got the brunt of the restructuring, with a manufacturing plant closing down in Japan, and their TV design operations losing 30% of their headcount.

The biggest effects of the cost-cutting plans on the PS Group revealed so far is an increase in expected losses, by about US$ 337 million, and lowering their projected sales of the PSP for the year. Still, it seems we can breathe a little easier until Sony decides to reveal their plans for which divisions will be affected by the restructuring.
