SCEA explains why Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is region locked

Sony Computer Entertainment America Line Producer Sam Thompson posted an article over at the official PlayStation Blog, providing an explanation regarding the newly-released demo for PS3 exclusive Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Line Producer Sam Thompson posted an article over at the official PlayStation Blog, providing an explanation regarding the newly-released demo for PS3 exclusive Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

As you all know, the demo hit the North American PlayStation Store just yesterday. Thompson said that the demo was only released for said region because the full copy of the game will be launched there first.

“Other territories are currently putting the finishing touches on the localization aspects of the Uncharted: DrakeÂ’s Fortune demo, and will release it in their respective PlayStation Stores in due course,” the line producer added.

If you happen to live in Japan and in Europe, take note that there’s no way that you can acquire the demo as of now. It has been region locked. Sam Thompson further commented:

As many of you in Europe and Japan may have already learned, today’s demo is currently only available on the North American PlayStation Store, and will only work on PS3 units in that territory…

Unfortunately when attempting to download the demo, our friends in PAL regions or Japan may have encountered a bug in which you are asked to insert a disc. Please ignore this prompt and accept our apologies.

The full retail copy of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune will be launched in U.S. this coming November 19 while our friends in Europe and Japan can expect it during the first week of December.
