Looks like Sony has decided to remain hands-off of the row that’s currently brewing between Activision and Harmonix regarding the latter’s Rock Band patch.
Speaking during a recent interview, a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson stated that SCEA planned to step back, and let the two sides sort out the legalities between themselves:
This is a matter that needs to be resolved between Harmonix/MTV and Activision regarding Intellectual Property. At SCEA, we of course want this resolved and to ensure the best possible gaming experience. We encourage MTV, Harmonix and Activision to discuss this among themselves so there can be an amicable resolution in the best interest of the consumer.
This whole matter started when Harmonix attempted to release a game patch for the PS3 port of Rock Band, which would enable the game run on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock‘s Les Paul controller. Activision, which owns the Guitar Hero franchise, wasn’t too happy with the patch, and subsequently moved to halt its release.
