SCEA: PS3 will outlive competition
Sony‘s entry to the console race may be in last place at the moment, but the PlayStation 3 is in for the marathon. As Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) president Jack Tretton told GamePro, the PS3’s life cycle is at its earliest stage.
Tretton mentioned how the original PlayStation lived for 10 years when “other platforms died and were all but forgotten,” and said the PS2 is experiencing the same thing. He believes that the Sony PS3 is next in line.
“We want to build evangelists, one consumer at a time, and it involves sacrificing in the short term before paying off in the long term,” Tretton continued. He stressed out that the first nine months of the console don’t say anything about its future.
When asked about hardware issues that make developers complain on difficulties they encounter during development, Tretton made it clear that SCEA is learning more and sharing what knowledge they acquire to the third party. “We are physically going to studios and working with them hand-in-hand. You will start to see that bear fruit in the near future,” he stated.
