SCEE: Europeans to lose PS3 starter packs as well?

PS3 Starter Pack - Image 1Mixed announcements are coming in pertaining to the PS3 starter packs released for Europe. On one side, there are reports that say that the pack is a promotional deal that would only last for the summer while another stand says that it will still be continuing indefinitely.

The reports that the starter pack will only last the summer come from customers who bought a PS3 prior to the starter pack and are feeling a little disenfranchised. When they sent a letter to Sony to state their concerns they received a reply that specifically states a date of closure for the starter pack. The letter from SCEE goes:

I was sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with regards to the launch of the PlayStation 3 Starter Pack. I would like to take this opportunity to stress that this is a summer promotion and that due to the nature of this offer it will end on a predetermined date.

The contradiction arises when a representative from GamesIndustry holds fast saying that the starter pack “will continue for the foreseeable future” and an SCEE representative saying “there is absolutely no time limit on that offer in Europe.” Seeing as it’s already been confirmed that Australia will lose it’s supply of starter packs by the end of August, there’s some reason to be concerned.

The “apology letters” were sent to people in the UK, but Australia is also under the jurisdiction of the SCEE, so there is a chance of a mix up. An official announcement will probably be given during the Game Convention in Leipzig which will take place from August 23 to 26 so we’ll have to sit on our hands until then.
