Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is enhancing the game development support environment for the PlayStation 3 by integrating programming tools from SN Systems Limited with the PS3 Software Development Kit.
Aside from this SCEI will also be reducing the price for the PS3 Reference Tool by half, and will be available for US$ 10,250 in the US, JPY 950,000 in Japan and EUR 7,500 in Europe. The prices are already in effect.
There are five things that SCEI will integrate into the SDK from the SN Systems programming tools, namely:
- The ProDG programming tool will come free of charge and will be available on the Debugging station as well as the Reference Tool.
- License and support fees for the SN Distributed Build System (SN-DBS) will no longer be in effect. (This has been in effect since October.)
- The SN Linker – a program for linking compiled programs – will also be available. The program improves linking speed up to eight times faster.
- The SN Compiler will be the new standard compiler for the PlayStation 3, optimizing the console for using C++. A beta version will be released this December.
- The Debugging Station will also be available and will take part in programming instead of being used only as a quality assurance system.
