Sega acquires rights for Iron Man games

Iron Man: from the movie teaser posterSuperheroes who make the jump from comics to the movies always get a videogame for themselves (Superman and Spiderman, for example). It’s practically one of the basic truths of the universe. Now, since Iron Man, who has evolved from clunky grey tin can into the gold-and-red mechanical marvel that he is today, is getting a big-budget Hollywood movie based on his comic, a videogame is sure to follow suit, right?

Well, of course there’s going to be a videogame. Sega has secured the exclusive rights to develop and distribute games based on MarvelÂ’s Iron Man comic book property. The first game to be released under the agreement will be based on the Iron Man movie. No news yet on whether or not subsequent games will also be movie-based.

According to Sega, the deal “represents the first step in a strategic partnership between Marvel and Sega to bring at least one additional Marvel Super Hero property to next-gen platforms.” There has been no announcements as of yet regarding which platforms the games will be released for, but we’ll be sure to inform you guys as soon as we get more details.
