Sega eats another studio

Earlier we reported about Sega Europe’s acquisition of Sports Interactive, now the American division has announced the purchase of another developer – Secret Level. The San Francisco-based studio had previously been responsible for a few console ports of initially PC-based software. Among those projects was a version of the Unreal Engine for PS2 and Xbox as well as America’s Army, Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds and Final Fight: Streetwise ports for Xbox.

Since last summer, the company has already been working closely with Sega for the next-gen resurrection of a yet to be specified older Sega franchise, to be released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Naoya Tsurumi, CEO of Sega Europe & North America, commented on the acquisition: “On the heels of our first, successful studio acquisition with The Creative Assembly, the addition of this development powerhouse further moves SEGA toward its goal of becoming a leading next-generation publisher.”
