Sega on top of PS3 third-party hill

Cool Sega - Image 1Sega‘s staunch support of the PlayStation 3’s launch was not in vain. In fact, it propelled Sega to the top of the third-party developer standings with four of its five PS3 launch titles hitting the platform’s top ten.

The success of Sega did not surprise its UK managing director, Alan Pritchard, at all, saying that the good performance of the launch titles is a testament to the publisher’s investment in the next generation of games.

Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3, Sonic the Hedgehog, Full Auto 2 and World Snooker Championship 2007 headlined Sega’s launch turf in the UK. Pritchard expects sales to rack even better figures late in the year when Sega Rally, The Golden Compass and The Club hit stores.

“Sega has continued to increase its market share considerably over the last 18 months” says the director. “We are very pleased to have achieved the status of the number one third party publisher at the launch of the PS3,” he adds.
