So aside from Iron Man and upcoming game adaptation of The Incredible Hulk, Sega laid out teasers for fans of Aliens, Total War and the stealthy action title, Alpha Protocol.

Sega threw a bash earlier this week that seemed to be the makings of a blockbuster launching with the company’s 2008 Gamer’s Day, and it was probably because of the publisher’s new angle on developing games based on movie, comics, and television franchises.

But perhaps the most riveting of game lineup revelations didn’t come from their unveiling of the upcoming game adaptation of The Incredible Hulk – in fact, we’d imagine that fans were more excited about the new Total War sequel, the next-generation remakes of Aliens and Sonic, and Sega’s ambitious espionage title, Alpha Protocol.

Initial details only emerged in small doses, however, so we’ve got just scant details of the games offered for show.

For Sega’s Sonic Unleashed, we’ve heard that the developers are keeping in theme for Sonic’s next adventurous run-through, and they aren’t willing to disappoint fans with the little human-to-hedgehog smooch stunt they let slip in the previous installment.

For RTS buffs banking all their money on Empire: Total War, some details regarding the new integration of sea combat has been divulged in adequate detail. People at Sega’s Gamer’s Day claim that Creative Assembly served up a pre-alpha release version of the game for show, and demonstrated how sea battles would play out.

Like many other naval combat games positioned in similar eras, ship maneuvers will tie in greatly to fleet formation and the direction and strength of the wind. Similarly, different ammo types will be provided for ship guns, ranging from chain shot (cripple sails), grape shot (cripple crew), to solid shot (cripple hull).

But the likeness ends there, as Empire: Total War aims to show the chaos in each ship during the big ship fights. Men will be seen milling about the ship, manning remaining guns, and attempting to snipe enemy crew off the sides of the ship (once the enemy ship is in range, of course).

You’ll be able to see men reeling from anti-crew shots and falling off the ship or getting knocked off by flying debris caused by direct hits. Designers also plan to add virtual sharks that’ll wander into the waters and prey on unsuspecting sailors and marines, though that may not make it into the final version.

When strategists attain a certain objective, the game will sprinkle some cut-scenes depicting those scenarios. If you cripple a ship’s main mast, for instance, you’d get an in-game sequence highlighting that moment.

Only a video teaser was provided for Aliens: Colonial Marines (no gameplay moments here, sorry!), but it did enough to keep people even more excited about the game.

The video only showed the visual prowess that the new Aliens vs. humans action shooter would provide, and ended in a scene where a Marine spots an Alien egg opening its folds, and says, “Wait a minute there’s movement, looks to be some kind of bug or something…”

Facehuggers, anyone? From the dialog itself, we can assume that this game will tackle the Aliens story from the earlier contacts between Xenomorphs and humans.

Alpha Protocol, Sega and Obsidian’s bid for stealth action on next-generation gaming platforms, didn’t capture a whole lot of limelight during the show, as details of it were slim at best. And most of it, we’ve already heard before. News that it’s geared for a February 2009 release hits us, however, and it’s always a good thing to know that.

We’ll have more updates ready for you as we round up more info for Samba de Amigo, Golden Axe: Beast Rider (yeah, we know, like HOLY CRAP!), Valkyria Chronicles, and more. Stay tuned.
