Sega UK: Expanding, growing…hiring

Mike HayesSega‘s expansion plans aren’t over just yet. After their purchase of Sports Interactive, and Creative Assemblies studios, this game publisher’s out to buff up some more, planning to do so by hiring more in-house development teams.

“I think for Sega ‘WestÂ’ we probably need another two or three studios within the family to get to the critical mass we want to get to,” says Sega Europe boss Mike Hayes about this expansion. “WeÂ’re aggressively wanting to work with more third party devs but having two or three in-house would be ideal. Who they would be and when that will happens is based on the market and the opportunities that arrive, so weÂ’re constantly on the lookout.”

According to the interview with MCV, Hayes plans to have their teams fully staffed and ready to handle their UK projects by April 2007. “We want to be operational in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Benelux. From a marketing and mobile point of view we likewise need to have enough to service a pan-European company of SegaÂ’s target size. This is so weÂ’re fully operational and toe-to-toe with the likes of Ubisoft, Activision and THQ.”

With Sega’s expansion plans blasting off like Sonic, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on their next move.
