Shadowrun: Magic & Technology Under One Roof
What do you get when you mix magic and high technology? Yes, Shadowrun‘s the right answer. It’s based on the ‘ol pen-paper-dice-and-nachos game. It had quite a following in the past because of its unique game design and setting. Now it’s on the Xbox 360, and it’s a shooter. Yep, apologies go to our RPG friends but the designers decided to do away with RPG. Last time we had screens, so now we’ll provide the highlights of GameSpot’s hands-on.
New ways of playing the shooter game – The writer mentioned that most FPS/third person shooters have the following moves: run, shoot, throw a grenade, and drive. In this game though, there will be other methods and “moves” for fighting with the additional “abilities” of the population: teleporting, gliding, transforming into gas, growing trees, X-ray vision, to name a few. Chain combo-ing them in-game would make the game field more interesting too.
No loners in this game – According to the article, this one is a multiplayer shooter. The only chance you’ll be alone is when you go through a lengthy tutorial. As for the multiplayer option, you get to play with 15 other people in a team vs. team game. Prepare to do a cross-over too; it’s going to be one of the first games where the Live Anywhere feature will be used. You will be going up against Xbox 360 users and PC owners. The writer also mentioned that he wasn’t able to notice the difference between PC and Xbox 360 users.
Developers are also saying that PC users might have a slight advantage because of the sniper rifle – the mouse is faster than the button. But is there any other way of getting an advantage? Yes, there is. Choose the right race, and you just might beat those PC-Snipers.
Race to the finish – In this game, choosing the right race is very essential. Humans are the all around guys. Elves are the quickest yet the easiest to kill because they regenerate slowly. The dwarf is a magic sucker. Put him in a field of magic and watch him gobble it all up. The trolls just want to bash everyone’s heads. They also have this cool defense where the body part hit becomes stone. Them big things are hard to take down.
If this little preview of the game got you all excited for Shadowrun’s coming, then you better save up to get the game.
