Shantae possibly headed to WiiWare
Ever heard of Shantae? Well, before WayForward Technologies got their hands dirty blasting aliens to smithereens in Contra 4, they had a blast developing a game based on this original character on the Game Boy Advance.
Rumor has it that Shantae may very well be making a comeback on WiiWare or, at least, that would be the plan that WayForward has in mind. More on this after the jump!
Siliconera has the latest on an otherwise hard-to-find character within the gaming world. Word has it, according to Siliconera’s post, that half-genie Shantae might make a comeback via the WiiWare service.
For those who haven’t heard of Shantae, she’s an original WayForward character who starred in her own game on the Game Boy Advance, long before WayForward ever came out with Contra 4. Unfortunately, a sequel never materialized for the half-genie, so she was confined to videogame obscurity until now.
Siliconera’s post explained that Voldi Way, founder of WayForward Technologies, was hoping that Shantae could find a new home over on the Wii, possibly as a new game. When asked if the company was considering WiiWare, Way replied, “that’s the plan.”
Well, WiiWare certainly looks like a good place for developers to put their own original IPs in to gain maximum exposure. Let’s all hope that Shantae does make her way to WiiWare, either as a new game, or as a cool port of the original.
