Short Interview with XBLA’s Greg Canessa
Joystiq had the opportunity to have a short, informal chat with Xbox Live Arcade’s Greg Canessa at the GDC conference. Here are the key points:
-Regarding competition from Sony, considering that nothing much is known about Sony’s online system as of yet, they currently aren’t sure what to expect. Thus, I suspect it’s hard to counter something of which you know nothing about.
-Regarding the XNA tools release, it is clear that Xbox Live Arcade is trying to woo game designers and increase the amount of fresh content available on Live. However, the service will still be maintained by those behind the scenes, and each title will be hand-picked.
-The current surge of low quality cell phone-esque games were described as “crappy”.
-Lastly, regarding the Blu-ray/HD-DVD format war, the future lies in downloadable content (Hmm, he didn’t seem to answer the question here, but managed to say that Microsoft already has an upper hand. I’m sure he’s completely unbiased).
We’ll bring more information to you as we get it.
