After suddenly leaving Konami in December of last year, longtime Silent Hill producer and composer Akira Yamaoka has found a new home — the Goichi “Suda 51” Suda-led Grasshopper Manufacture. Japanese magazine Famitsu recently talked to both Yamaoka and Suda about the former’s decision to join Grasshopper Manufacture.

“Ever since I saw a video of Silent Hill 2 at the Tokyo Game Show nine years ago, I’ve always dreamed of working alongside him,” said Suda. “That’s why I thought I’d invite him over when I started hearing rumors that he left [Konami].”

“It was a case of really good timing,” Yamaoka told Famitsu. “I knew about Suda long before I met him; I saw Grasshopper as one of those few Japanese outfits whose games can appeal to an overseas audience.”

For his first project at Grasshopper, Yamaoka will be working as the composer for the as-yet-unrevealed project that Suda 51 and Shinji Mikami are cooking up for EA. Composing music will be Yamaoka’s main priority at the studio, although he did express an interest in using his “total sum of experience” to create games in the future.
