Slide Adventure: Mag Kid to show off new control scheme for the DS
It seems like there’s nothing too quirky for Nintendo, at least when it comes to its game consoles. Not content with using only the DS’ touch screen controlling scheme, Nintendo has come up with another strange way of letting players control their game: slide controller.
As far as IGN’s translation of the latest Famitsu article on the Nintendo DS goes, the slide controller (which looks more like a stand than a controller) is plugged into the GBA or Slot 2 port. Once the DS is sitting on a flat surface, you can let it slide across the table, and the controller picks up the sliding movements.
Too strange? We think so, too.
The first game to use the slide controller is aptly named Slide Adventure: Mag Kid. You control the game character Mag Kid by sliding the DS to the direction where you want to go. Sliding the DS toward an enemy will paralyze it and since Mag Kid has special magnetic abilities, the paralyzed enemy can be attached to the character.
Attaching monsters to Mag Kid grants him special powers, like laser or fire. Interestingly, if you’re sick of using that certain type of special power, you can literally shake off the enemy by shaking the Nintendo DS.
It sounds like a nice concept for a game, but how about trying to play where there’s no flat surface available? We’re a bit short on details at the moment, but with a Japanese release date on August 2, more information will slide our way real soon.
Update: We found a Famitsu scan in JeuxFrance.com showing off the new DS controls to be used in the game Slide Adventure: Mag Kid. Take a look at how you’ll probably be using the slide controller for the game in the following pic:
