Sneak peek at WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 career modes
Yuke’s has a lot in store for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 (PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360) solo play mode, but in order outdo the previous installment, they had to take a few things out. Season, the previous career mode, is now gone, nada, kaput. In place of that is SvR 2008‘s new 24/7 and Main Event modes, depending on what platform you play the game on.
On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, 24/7 will be served. This game mode takes both the Season and General Manager mode into one lengthy brawl in a quest to become a legend in wrestling. You will no longer have to choose between the two, because in this mode, you can take on both roles and be more than just a champion of the ring.
Publisher THQ says that 24/7 grants players full control over their Superstars’ progress. It’s comprehensive enough that players can set a match, spin a story, and soon fully manage the every day activities of the wrestling stars. Autograph signing, charities, and even movie cameos – all this you can set for your own Superstars to achieve the goal of luring fans toward your fold and far from the competition’s side.

Autograph signing, charities, and even movie cameos – all this you can set for your own Superstars to achieve the goal of luring fans toward your fold and far from the competition’s side. In quick summary, here are some of the achievements that you would have to attain:
Superstar Goals:
- Number of Championship defenses
- Longevity atop the Power 25
- Number of PPV victories
- WrestleMania Appearances/Wins
General Manager Goals:
- Number of Survivor Series wins
- Maintain a 13-week rivalry
- Maintain a healthy roster for one month without any injuries
- Achieve a 5-Star Match rating at WrestleMania
As you may have guessed, the Main Event mode is for gamers who pick this game up for the Wii. In Main Event, the player becomes particularly involved with a one Superstar. Players can set up matches for that particular Superstar via an in-game mobile phone. In addition, the player can define the WWE brand that the Superstar would fight under (e.g. RAW, Smackdown), thus granting the wrestler access to competitions under the chosen brand.
While on a trek to the top, gamers can choose whether their Superstar plays and acts clean or dirty, giving players an option between building another goody-two-shoes and a no-good cheat. There is a fanbase for both sides of the fence, so whatever side you choose, you will align the Superstar with Superstars of similar alignment and earn a group of fans favoring that alignment.
