SOE announcement: Maintenance downtime across all its MMORPGs

SOE has just announced that it will be performing system maintenance across all its online services, which will then temporarily bring down all its servers. While a downtime of this nature is pretty common, its sheer extent is kind of thought-provoking. The full story awaits after the jump!

 

Sony Online Entertainment is sending out word that there will be a maintenance to its services. This, then, will affect every single MMO video game title that the company has developed and published.

SOE Community Relations Coordinator Ashlanne Barefoot gave the announcement over at the official Sony Station community. Here are the exact words of the official regarding the matter:

Beginning at 1a.m. PDT / 8 a.m. GMT on Wednesday, March 12 all SOE services including game servers, forums, game websites, and subscription services will be unavailable due to system maintenance.

We expect this maintenance to take approximately six hours. We apologize for this interruption and will resume all affected services as soon as the maintenance is completed.

While a maintenance downtime is relatively normal for any MMORPG, one this massive is sure to rouse the curiosity of gamers. Aside from the usual cleanup, one has to wonder if SOE has something up its sleeves.
