Solid Snake sneaks past Lego Indy in UK: MGS4 debuts as top gun

Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4 - Image 1With Solid Snake enjoying epic numbers in Japan, it’s now time to take a look at the other side of the world. Chart Track reports the software sales figures for the week ending on June 14, with Metal Gear Solid 4 closing its firm grip on to the top spot. Lego Indy is like so last week now. Its multiplatform success on the PSP, PS3, Wii, DS, 360, and PC last week apparently wasn’t enough to take cover from the Guns of the Patriots. And for a PS3-exclusive to bring a multi-platformer down at heel? That’s definitely saying something! See Raiden do the happy dance in the full article.

While Solid Snake is taking over Japan with epic numbers in tow, the UK is likewise celebrating Konami‘s latest stealth title. In fact, Metal Gear Solid 4 has actually debuted straight to the top of the UK software charts for the period of June 9 to June 15.

With MGS4 dominating the pack, Lego Indiana Jones is chased by a rolling boulder down to the second spot. In turn, Niko Bellic slips down another rank with GTA4 holding third place.

For a PS3-exclusive to snuff out the multiplatform success of Lego Indy… That’s really saying something. What’s more is that MGS4‘s success only counts for three days of the total week of the chart’s timespan. MGS4 was released on the 12th – a Thursday – remember? Imagine that, eh?

In terms of PS3 launch week sales, Guns of the Patriots now sits comfortably between Grand Theft Auto 4 and Gran Trusimo 5: Prologue as the UK’s second-fastest PS3 title. And if it’s a matter of comparing MGS4 to the rest of the Metal Gear saga’s UK launch weeks, the latest iteration in the franchise is stuck squarely between MGS2 (with MGS4 down by 24,000 units) and MGS3 (with MGS4 ahead by 14,000 units).

Meanwhile, other mainstays are still around: Mario & Sonic still running up the track, Dr. Kawashima picking at everyone’s brain cells, and PES 2008 still kicking to stay alive. Also debuting this week is Civilization Revolution from civ-sim guru Sid Meier.
