Seems like Sonic’s ride to the top hit a little development snag today as Sega has announced that they are pushing back the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 from the original summer release to the latter half of 2010 due to some more polishing needed. According to the company’s official statement:

With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010. The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on keeping the game high-quality, continuing tuning and balancing of levels and interface and overall maintaining the kind of polish that an important game like this demands, ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.

It’s not all bad news, though, as the company has also confirmed that the downloadable sequel is now also coming to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch, joining the ones already in development for PSN, XBLA and WiiWare.

Thanks T-Max Blaze for the tip!
