Sony asks if you want a bundled GPS receiver with your PSP

Sony asks the question... - Image 1The PlayStation Portable (PSP) and GPS functionality are not entirely alien with each other. In fact, in the past, there have been various discussions about the possibilities of this match, and even a match between the PSP and the highly rumored Skype functionality. Nowadays, rumors are again circulating, as Sony allegedly conducted a new survey on whether a GPS receiver should be included in the PSP.

According to the survey, the GPS navigation service will be offered for £69 (about US$ 138.41). The receiver will be bundled with a UMD where the navigation software and maps of your territory will be stored. Other proposed features include:

  • software that is designed for both in-car and pedestrian navigation and has a separate “Basic” and “Expert” mode.
  • search functionality which allows you to enter a specific address or to select any of your saved or favorite destinations. From this moment on, the software will guide you from turn to turn.
  • detailed 3D maps that come with thousands of addresses of gas and service stations, ATMs, shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants.
  • As a user, you will also be able to recommend and share interesting places with the other users: other features include pre-trip planning, customizable route settings and navigation controls, safety features, as well as safety camera and speed warnings.
  • ability for the user to download additional country maps, the latest software updates, and other interesting location-based content.

Well, that’s pretty a lot and nifty if you ask us. So the ultimate question now is do you want it?
