Sony bows to their customers … PS3 to be region-free

Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison, in a session following his address at GDC 2006, confirmed (unbelievably) that the PS3 will be region-free for gaming.

Demanded by gamers all over the world, this will allow the PS3 to play import games and allow game publishers the ability to release games at the same time around the world, either through e-distribution or on disc.
