Sony: GBP 299 PS3 pure “rumor and speculation”
Rumors about a new 40GB PlayStation 3 SKU have been flying fast recently, generating a lot of excitement, speculation and – of course – doubt among gamers.
Sony has also moved quickly to clamp down on the rumor and it seems the doubters may have gotten things right. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has said that the SKU is nothing but “rumor and speculation”.
The alleged SKU was supposed to be available for GBP 299 (US$ 604). It’s a lot cheaper than the GBP 425 (US$ 857) 60GB PS3 that comes with an extra controller and two first-party titles, but the rumored SKU was supposed to be a more “stripped down” version without USB ports and zero backwards compatibility. Stay tuned for further developments.
