Sony is coming out with Mezone – what at first seems to be a brand new television and home entertainment system that features a broad list of entertainment media. It’s all so exciting, except… no one knows what it is yet. What could Sony be up to?
The most anyone knows right now is that Sony has patented the trademark on December 5 and that a website for the new service is live but won’t let anyone with the proper IP address take a peek inside.
There’s no telling yet whether this has anything (or nothing) to do with the PlayStation 3 or the PSP, but the patent filing suggests possible interactivity with other devices, and a lot of its other functions is similar to the PS3’s so who knows? The only thing we can do right now is speculate until Sony opens the gates.
For the curious, here are some sections taken from the patent filing of Mezone, outlining some of its functions. It’s a little long but the general idea is that it’s a hardware and service entertainment system:
