Sony Launches VAIO Type US VGN-UX50/UX90 UMPC

After all the teasing and fevered speculation, Sony has officially unveiled its VAIO type U VGN-UX50/UX90 Ultra Mobile PC. While most of the rumors on the specs turned out to be correct, the biggest discrepancy was the screen size. Instead of the speculated 7-inch touchscreen, the VAIO Type U will come with a 4-inch touchscreen. The smaller screen may be quite a disappointment, but it just makes the device even more portable.

The UX50 will measure 100.5×23.2mm, while the UX90 will be 150.2x95mm. The UX50 comes with a Core Solo U1300 (1.06 GHz) processor, while the UX90 has a Core Solo U1400 (1.2 GHz). You can also opt for a Celeron M423 (1.06GHz). RAM comes in at a very decent 512MB, while the HDD comes in either 20 or 30 GB sizes. Connectivity concerns are being taken care of by WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0. As previously reported, there is a fingerprint scanner for additional security. ThereÂ’s a 1.3MP camera, and CF/MS slot. Battery life is 3.5 hours.

The specs arenÂ’t very impressive but itÂ’s an all around solid package and it’s definitely worth considering if youÂ’re into this type of portable gizmo.
