Sony: LittleBigPlanet would be number one in other times of the year
Sony says that they’re “really pleased” with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet, despite a not-quite-stellar performance in the market. In the UK, it only debuted in the charts on fourth place, and had a sudden drop to 19th place the following week. So why are they pleased? Sony’s PR man David Wilson explains.
Sony says that they’re “really pleased” with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet, despite a not-quite-stellar performance in the market.
In the UK, it only debuted in the charts on fourth place, and had a sudden drop to 19th place the following week. in Japan, it debuted on third place, outgunned by Grand Theft Auto IV which was also released in the region the same week.
So why is Sony so pleased? Sony’s head of public relations in the UK, David Wilson, explains that:
We’re really pleased with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet – it has been our highest scoring game ever I believe with a Metacritic score of 95 and a huge list of 10/10s or 100 per cent scores.
[…] In other times of the year it would be a clear number one – so you have to put the chart in context. This is an incredibly volatile time of year and the chart reflects that – November 7 saw 47 titles released on that one day alone including many big hitters with Christmas number one aspirations. Look at the chart this week – the top four are all brand new entries.
[…] LittleBigPlanet is excellent on day one but even better as time goes by. […] It is also a game that will benefit enormously from word of mouth and from people trying it out with friends or in store – it drips fun and charm in equal measure.
He further says that they’ll be launching a six-digit TV advertising campaign come December, so sales should really pick up by then.
