At first glance – the wand, the subcontroller, the concept – it’d be easy to dismiss PlayStation Move as simply Wii on a PS3. True enough, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime and Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter have both publicly stated this comparison. But again, Sony insists, that despite the apparent similarities, PlayStation Move is different from the Wii.

“It’s inevitable that people would say this is Wii on PS3,” said UK PR boss David Wilson in an interview with MCV. “But we see it as a complimentary product. It’s a different proposition.

Wilson goes on:

And let’s not forget, we’ve been in this space before with EyeToy and all the rest of it. There are learnings there. It’s not alien territory for us but we need to educate people about the potential that it has.

Well, there will come a time to prove itself. The first impressions last, and we’ll be seeing the shiny ball in action once PlayStation Move hits retail. Until then, there’s plenty of room to debate and debunk.
