Sony “Poos”?
Okay, this one’s for all you 8th-grade boys out there…
To be fair, English is a horribly difficult language for non-native speakers to master. And there are always little cultural things that don’t translate as intended.
No doubt, you all had some good laughs over “PS” and “PSP,” but now, Sony has gone one better by registering the name “Poos.” The German gaming site (GameFront.de) that originally reported the story said “Sony has patented ‘P oo S’, but we don’t know what it is. Perhaps it’s the name of the controller.”
As it turns out, it’s actually a “P” and an “S” with an “infinity” sign between them, which is a numeral “8” lying on its side (see image below). Rumour has it that it’s to be the name of the PS3 online network. Previously, it was announced at the E3 2006 Expo as the “PlayStation Network Platform.”
Unfortunately (but hilariously), the name “Poos” is starting to stick as toilet-related jokes start popping up on gaming sites all over the ‘Net. Yep, looks like it’s hitting the fan for Sony…
One can only imagine what scatological name Microsoft will come up with in response…stay tuned!
