Sony PS3: Eventual king of the console war?
A lot of people has been saying that Sony just crumbled these past few months. Various incidents like what happened with Lik-Sang and the numerous pre-launch PS3 problems definitely contributed to this. With all that behind now however, we all just have to look ahead and focus on the hardware regardless of the bad press that’s been hounding it.
When everything is finally said and done, there are still a good number of analysts, industry players and experts that are placing their money on the PlayStation 3. On top of their reasons is branding. It is true Nintendo dominated the 80s but somehow they slowed down. The new generation of gamers almost instantly associate videogaming with PSOne and PS2. Regardless of the bad publicity, it is highly probable consumers will stick with the brand they became accustomed to.
Microsoft had a one year headstart alright but it seemed they just cannot deliver that killer blow, that sweet icing on the cake. After the first few months, sales of the X360 slowly diminished, no matter how much the company say otherwise. Besides, the Japanese market which is quite big and lucrative, will opt for a Wii or a PS3 as they tend to patronize local products. If gamers don’t want a revolution and remain with familiar buttons and the like, they’d definitely be going for PS3.
Furthermore, BluRay will matter one way or the other. Worst comes to worse for Sony, HD-DVD will be crowned successor to the DVD. However, the extra space on the new disc affords developers to expand and elaborate on their creations as much as they want. And in the event the BluRay succeeds, need we say more? Sony will be patting itself on the back for a job well done.
Finally, online features will become the norm by and by. Within the next five years or so, gameplay, content and other materials will be conducted in a wireless, online kind of way. With the inclusion of full free online gaming feature, Sony is looking at the right direction. When this starts bringing home the bacon for the PS3, Microsoft may have no other option but to go free as well.
