Sony: PS3 in marathon instead of sprint in terms of sales

PlayStation 3 - Image 1When a rival’s console is outselling yours by quite a large margin, it’s certainly not surprising for one to worry. However, worrying may be the last thing in Sony’s mind, with company spokesperson Nanako Kato saying that they feel the PlayStation 3 is in a marathon instead of a sprint race in terms of sales.

This statement comes as a reply to the question as to why the Wii was outselling the third incarnation to the beloved PlayStation console. While there are lots of speculation going around as to why – from poor advertising to steep pricing – Nanako Kato had this to say:

We developed the PS3 as a hardware that lasts for decades and believe we are in a marathon rather than a sprint.

With that said, SCE will accelerate the expansion of the PS3 platform over the next several months by offering a rich lineup of attractive software titles and pursuing own promotional activities as a platform holder.

Kato elaborated with the aforementioned promotional activities, citing increased demo spaces at retail stores and joint advertising with third-party developers as two of the many plans Sony has for its console.

Certainly good to know that Sony’s not giving up the good fight just yet. Marathon, sprint, or three-legged race, the legendary company knows it has a lot of catching up to do, and is fully determined to cross that gap. Updates as we get them.
