Sony Releasing Blu-ray Player In USA In July

Sony has announced that they will be releasing their Blu-ray Disc player in America at $1,000 USD in July. The release plan for Japan is not decided yet.

The other Next-Gen DVD standard, “HD DVD”, which is backed by Toshiba, will be implemented as a player by Toshiba itself, and also released in America, for $499 USD. The melee between the two standards on the market is about to start soon.

However, the average consumers from America still know little about the Next-Gen DVD. The first wave of the customer will likely be mainly maniacs.
