Sony says recent NPD numbers are favorable
Despite the decline of sales numbers from the PS3 and PSP, Sony is still viewing the August NPD results in a positive light.
According to Sony’s official statement, they had a “steady increase in units sold over pre-July numbers” and that they had a 61% increase at retail sales for the past two months. [Bold emphasis added, just because we love our happy Sony news. – Ed.]
Sony also declared that August 2007 was actually a strong month for the PlayStation, scoring about US$ 340 million in sales.
As for the decrease in PSP sales, Sony put the blame on “out of stock” situations which caused Sony’s handheld to score a little low in retail, aside from anticipation of the new PSP-2000 model, the PSP Slim & Lite.
Nintendo and Microsoft haven’t sent out their August NPD statements yet, so do check back more updates!
And we can’t wait for the next batch of numbers from Sony. We expect Sony to report even more growth with the release of the PSP Slim & Lite.
