Sony: Supply of blue laser diodes for PS3 sufficient
There’s a pretty good chance that Sony will be stepping up PS3 production in the coming months. According to German gaming blog Gamefront, the company now has a sufficient supply of diodes for its next gen PS3 video games console.
Sony spokesperson Takashi Uehara revealed that the company is now in possession of a sufficient supply of diodes for the PS3. According to Sony, production could increase to five million units a month. The weblated piece of news from Gamefront also hinted that Sony also has enough diodes for Blu-ray players and recorders.
A shortage of the aforementioned diodes — which are used for the PS3’s Blu-ray drive — in turn caused a shortage of the next gen console last year.
