Tensions are rising within Sony over restructuring plan - Image 1All eyes are on Sony as they prepare to announce their restructuring plans in the next few days.

Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer announced last December that he plans to lay off 16,000 employees from the company to cut costs after their disastrous 57% slash on their year earnings.

Word is that Stringer also plans to cut out some products from their hardware lines, like television sets, as an answer to the lack of demand from consumers. The plan is to rely more on sales of software built into their gadgets.

The Financial Times‘ report made no mention of the PlayStation Group’s status with Sony’s executives, but hopefully, if Stringer’s plans pull through, they won’t be under the axe. While SCEE‘s David Reeves is sure that the PS division is safe, the mood is definitely tense as the clock ticks down to Sony’s announcement.
