Sony to release new PS3 model, cut prices in Japan

According to a recent press release given out by Sony, it seems the company will be releasing a new PlayStation 3 series on November 11, featuring a new color and a lower price.

The new model, dubbed the CECHH00 series, will be a new 40 GB model that comes in two colors: clear black and ceramic white. As you can probably guess, the ceramic white version looks to be a new draw for gamers looking to purchase a PS3, and it’ll be available on November 11 for 39,980 yen (US$ 341).

For those who can’t wait till November, however, Sony is planning on lowering the price of the PlayStation 3 in Japan come October 17. This price change comes in two forms. First, the 20 GB model will be sold for 44,980 yen (US$ 383). Second, Sony will also be selling the 60 GB model for 54,980 yen (US$ 469).

In related news, Japan will also be the first folks in the world to get their hands on a Dual Shock 3. It will also come out on November 11, and will come in both clear black and ceramic white forms. The Dual Shock 3 controllers currently have a suggested retail price of 5,500 yen (US$ 47).
