The BETT technology fair will be happening early next year at Olympia in London from January 9 to 12, 2008. The objective of the event is to bring together the learning and teaching community and how existing gadgets can be used as learning tools.

Having said that, Sony recently expressed desire to be part of the event by offering educators a way to reach children who play video games and to help make learning fun using the PlayStation Portable.

Mark Stimpfig, director for Sony PSP ConnectED,  had this to say about Sony’s offer:

Why not give children something they already know how to use? ItÂ’s very video-based, which contrasts greatly with virtual learning environments, which are very static.

If there are two and a half million children out there using their PSPs to play games, then thereÂ’s no reason why teachers shouldnÂ’t use them for teaching purposes.

If this partnership will push through, we don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be a success. The Sony handheld was first introduced in UK back in September of 2005 and currently has a strong user base in the region.
