Sony: “Wii is a core gaming device”

FingersA few days ago, we just gave you a mini compilation of did-they-just-say-that quotes from our favourite publisher/developer, Electronic Arts. Now we present you with another wonderful quotable quote, this time around it’s from Sony. Here’s what Nic Foster, general manager for Sony Australia & New Zealand said in the Sydney Morning Herald:

Wii is a core gaming device. It’s a more fun, intuitive sort of product to pick up, where the PS3 is a broader entertainment solution.

Yes, he does show class in giving Wii it’s due while at the same time, doing his PR duties by promoting the power of the PS3. The problem here is that some may misconstrue what Foster just said. Really, his statement can just be taken in so many ways. For example, here’s what Adrian Kingsley-Hughes of ZDNet has to say this about Foster’s quotable quote:

So the PS3 isn’t the ultimate games console that we all believed it would be.  This goes to prove that Sony is seeing the PS3 more as a media center than a games console and this could be where the PS3 has gone wrong.

Maybe what Foster failed at trying to say is that the PS3 is for gaming plus media viewing power, and the Wii is just for gaming. Oh well, to some he came across as saying that the Wii is for gamers, while the PS3 isn’t exactly that.

You were sort of iffy with that one Mister Foster. For one thing, you do not say that the competitors console is “more fun” than yours. Better luck next time.
