Sony-Ericsson Cyber-shot: The World’s First REAL Camera Phones

SE Cyber-shot K800The Cyber-shot legacy, traditionally used for Sony’s dedicated digital cameras, surfaced in Sony Ericsson’s 3.2-megapixel camera-phones with auto focus, 16x digital zoom, Xenon flash, active lens cover, PictBridge support and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion slot.  And yes, the units have the built-in image stabilizer function of the camera-only models.

The SE Cyber-shot K800 and K790 are expected to “create a new lifestyle of ‘imaging communication’ by combining Sony Ericsson’s unique mobile applications and Sony’s digital imaging technologies”. Hyped as “the worldÂ’s first real camera phone” by some, its claim to fame is the BestPic feature which help users capture the desired image. This is done by recording a sequence of nine images (at resolutions of up to 3.2 megapixels) from which users can then pick and save those they want.  The Sony Ericsson K800 is a dual-mode UMTS handset while K790 is a Tri Band EDGE handset. Both products will be commercially available in Velvet Black and start shipping globally sometime in Q2 2006.
