It was a deja vu moment when Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. head honcho Kazuo Hirai recently remarked in an interview that there are currently no plans for a price cut for the PlayStation 3. None at all. The comment effectively squashes all talks, rumors, and hopes.

The announcement applies to all regions (yes, even Japan). Talks about a price drop may have been sparked by the lowered production cost of the PlayStation 3. It could also have been sparked by the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PS3), a notion that’s been suggested before.

Analyst Michael Pachter also predicted that the console will double its U.S. sales, but only if a price cut should happen. Perhaps a price cut may happen yet – the year has only started after all. We can only wait and see what happens. Check back for updates.
