Sony’s PlayStation 3 sales rise 178 percent due to new models, price drop

Sony's PlayStation 3 sales rise by 178 percent - Image 1PlayStation 3 hardware sales have been picking up ever since the 40GB and 60GB bundles were released and prices were dropped for older models.

According to ChartTrack, sales of the console has spiked by 178% in the UK, making it the third biggest hardware sales week for the console.

The exact numbers for this rise were not released so we won’t be able to say exactly how many units were sold. If this is a sign of things to come, the PlayStation 3 looks to be slowly gaining ground on its competitors.

Because of this sales spike, the games for the PlayStation 3 also saw a nice upturn in sales with Resistance: Fall of Man jumping up from 22 to 8, Heavenly Sword re-entering the charts at 14, and MotorStorm getting a nice boost from 23 to 18.

It looks like Sony‘s new PS3 marketing campaign and products are paying off. It now becomes a question of maintaining the same amount of interest from the gaming community in their future endeavors.
