Splatterhouse hitting Wiis this Monday

The original cover for Splatterhouse on the TurboGrafix-16To most retro gamers, Namco’s Splatterhouse is a classic in its own right.  Considered by some to be the father of survival-horror games, the side-scroller has the distinction of being the first game to get a parental advisory disclaimer.

This port of the Turbografix-16 edition for the Wii follows the same storyline as before.

The mansion known as Splatterhouse was once the site of experiments conducted by Dr. West.  Dr. West has long since vanished under mysterious circumstances, but inspite of that, people who have visited the mansion have never returned.

Rick Taylor and Jennifer Wills visit Splatterhouse for a school experiment when a sudden thunderstorm force them to seek shelter within its confines. Jennifer is abducted at this point and Rick is left for dead. When Rick wakes up, he finds himself lying in his own blood with a strange mask (it looks like the hockey mask Jason Vorhees used in “Friday the 13th”) which Dr. West mentions in his writings as the “Terror Mask” or the “Hell Mask.” With his new-found powers granted by the mask, he looks for Jennifer and hopes to save her from whatever creature took her.

The game will be made available for the Wii this March 19 for 600 Wii points. Fans (or those interested) can check out the game then. You can also see the controls of the game below if you’d like to see how it plays.
