Spore Creature Creator spawned over 250,000 creatures in a day

Spore Electronic Arts - Image 1In an impressive turnout, the Spore (PC, Nintendo Wii, DS, Mac, and Mobile) Creature Creator for the PC platform has churned out about 250,000 creatures in a single day – that’s how much the users loved Electronic Arts‘ most-anticipated game. This is despite the fact that Electronic Arts had to wield the banhammer on those who got a little bit too enthusiastic about being able to create a creature out of their own imagination. Electronic Arts is quite happy with the outcome brought about by the release of Spore‘s (PC, Nintendo Wii, DS, Mac, and Mobile) Creature Creator for the PC, and they have good reason: just a few days after its release, fans of the PC version of the game managed to churn out 250,000 creatures, and that’s only in a single day.

Taking into account all the creatures created ever since the demo was leaked into the Internet, the online community produced about 400,000 virtual creatures. “The response to the Spore Creature Creator has been overwhelming,” said the executive producer of the game, Lucy Bradshaw.

It’s not surprising – the popularity of the application is evidenced by the proliferation of creatures of questionable virtue, so to speak. Despite EA’s firm handling of these accounts with “inappropriate” creature creations, the Spore creature creation boom hasn’t diminished and about 1000 creatures have been exchanged between users, every minute.

So what does this mean to Spore, and ultimately, Electronic Arts? It’s probably safe to say that this already safeguards the popularity of the game upon its release in September. The Creature Creator is available for US$ 10 as a full app, or you can try it first in a more limited version for free.
