Spring Dashboard Updates: Friend or Foe?

Dashboard

Those that have pining for the Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Updates from Microsoft, you might want to hold that thought for a while and check out what other gamers have to say about the update.

  • I’m having real issues with Oblivion at the moment as well. Everything is taking 10x longer to load, even the main menu etc.
  • After updating I played the outfit for about an hour, halfway through playing an online game it froze. When I turned the console off and back on, I get no video output and a red ring of light. I’ve had this console since last November and never had any issues.
  • Ok, just had the freezing problem again when trying to play battlefield 2 demo. Turned the system off and unhooked the hard drive. Played graw for about 2 minutes in single system multiplayer, by myself. Froze after about 2 minutes. So not the hard drive, and not an overheating issue. At least I’m not having the 3ROL issue that some people are having, but I think that it is definently an issue with the dashboard update.

Microsoft claims that the failure rate is below 5%, although it is highly suspicious that some of their representatives are offering to repair some people’s consoles for half the price.

In an article dated May 25, 2006 in the XBox website, it says: “Many of the changes are based on what Microsoft said was user feedback. (It was also said that the Xbox Live team is current planning out the fall upgrade, so keep submitting ideas and comments.)”

As a consumer and a gamer of their products, just let yourself be heard. I know that for some people this hardly seems like the way to go about it, but sometimes clamor is the only way to be heard. Let us also take in mind that like everything in gaming, the XBox 360 is also a work in progress. An amicable compromise can ultimately lead to a solution.
