Square Enix and Sony sued over Final Fantasy XIII freezing issue
Playing through Final Fantasy XIII, you may have encountered a few instances where your controller just refuses to do what you tell it to. While most players simply brushed it off and went on with their lives, one gamer filed a class-action lawsuit against Square Enix and Sony, claiming that the freezing issue caused “severe and widespread damage” to PS3 systems.
According to the class-action suit filed by Daniel Wolf of San Diego, CA, the games “caused their PS3 consoles to freeze and become totally and permanently inoperable.” Wolf said that when he attempted to save the game, his console suddenly became unresponsive and was no longer able to play any media after it was restarted.
“Both Defendants are eminently aware of the damage being cause by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it,” the suit said. The class is claiming US$ 5 million in damages apart from other smaller compensations.
Square Enix hasn’t given any comment, but Sony has told IGN that it doesn’t comment on legal matters. Do they ever? If you’re interested in reading the legal hubbub, there’s a PDF here.
