Square Enix President talks about remakes

Yoichi Wada - Image 1We’ve been seeing a lot of remakes lately, and there’s an undeniable patronage for them. Naturally, the mammoth publisher isn’t about to pass on the opportunity. Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, talks about games, consumers, and why remakes are in. Square Enix and remakes, huh?  Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

Square Enix - Image 1We’ve been seeing a lot of remakes lately, and they’re actually quite welcome. For publishers, it’s a gold mine – they’re low risk, but have high returns. For veteran gamers, playing a classic in souped up engines is a great experience. For new gamers, they get to appreciate the old games in their remade glory.

With the current situation of the gaming industry – lay-offs and realignments here and there – Square Enix president Yoichi Wada explains how there came to be a remake boom. “The price of games is high, and consumers tend to be wary of buying games they are unfamiliar with,” he points out. With unfamiliarity, gamers would be inclined to buying remakes of successful, tried-and-tested titles, as opposed to taking a gamble at a new one.
