Star Wars Galaxies is in your house, knocking down walls
In official announcement at the main site of the biggest MMO to date in the Star Wars franchise stated that in-game assets of the inactive accounts since April 17, 2007 will be marked as abandoned and subject to demolition. While everything in the game is digital and virtual, a virtual asset is still a valuable asset. But if “you don’t use it, you could lose it!”
So while the Empire strikes back and initiates a galaxy wide demolition plan, it’s your fellow in-game players that will get to make first and last wrecking ball-swing with turbolaser batteries and proton torpedoes. That’s because every structure subject to demolition comes with a reward, which can then be exchanged at the Lucky Despot to decorate their own cozy home.
Since the overall feel of the whole event appears to be a desperate stunt to regain the inactive core of players, we feel a serious disturbance in the Force, folks. The folks at Star Wars Galaxies are offering a in-game painting of Obi-Wan Kenobi for all those that do reactivate their accounts prior to May 31, 2007, but refused to turn to the dark side of the Force.
A reporter from MMOG Nation speculates that the move for in-game asset removal is in due preparation for a server merge. Still, the idea is a good way to keep the community together, while actually being rewarded for doing something as destructive as a demolitions expert could only dream of.
