It’s no secret that StarCraft 2 is shaping up to be filled with new features that completely brand it as an evolution of the original. Blizzard is taking the classic real-time strategy game to the next level, not just by adding new units and skills, but by offering extensive support for user maps. According to developers’ answers to Q&A batch 30, we can expect highly customizable maps thanks to a powerful editor.

Blizzard intends to give players more freedom by allowing them to create multiplayer campaign maps. Triggers this time will not only initiate events, but also add weather effects that affect gameplay since weather effect technology has not yet been finalized. The editor leaves space for modifying the tech tree, while the AI can follow complex instructions due to StarCraft 2‘s extensive AI scripting support. In other words, campaigns can play out the way you want them to.

It will also be possible to customize abilities and employ weapon changing thanks to StarCraft 2‘s flexible ability system. Unfortunately, devs stated that there are no plans to include both male and female versions of units. Then again, who would rather see female marines than have enough tools to create challenging multiplayer campaigns?
