Continuing on their slow recount of StarCraft lore, Blizzard has released a new StarCraft II update on their official website, detailing the history of Mar Sara, a planet in the 8th system of the prime 13 systems of the former Terran Confederacy.

But we all know the Confederacy soon collapsed, and Arcturus Mengsk, now Emperor of the Terran Dominion, re-established claim over the core systems.

Back in the days of the Zerg invasion and the succeeding Brood Wars, Mar Sara was obliterated to a toasty pulp, thanks to the Protoss’ decision to finish the Zerg infestation once and for all. But years have passed, and the effects of the bombardment by Executor Tassadar’s Protoss fleet have transformed the minerals on the planet to resources that could be profited from.

The Kel-Moran Guild staked their claim over the world and began strip mining the planet of these precious materials. Soon after, Terran Dominion forces also set up firebases around the planet’s surface, which was reported to be sanctioned by the Kel-Moran.

And somehow, despite the incineration of the planet, Zerg swarms have also returned, littering the landscape in insignificant numbers. Apparently, this planet will be one of the locations that Jim Raynor and his rag-tag team of freedom fighters known as “Raynor’s Raiders” will visit.

We aren’t sure if it’s sister planet, Chau Sara, will also be one of the other planets to appear in StarCraft 2‘s new “Select a Mission” feature, but who’s to say we aren’t going to yet? More on that as we uncover them.
